Pepsi is not yet spayed (she must be spayed 12 weeks after her last season)
Pepsi is a much loved family dog who loves nothing more than cuddles and fusses on the sofa with her family. She lives happily with children and has been used to being very much at the centre of her family, joining in with all their activities and rarely left behind, and it is important that this should continue. Pepsi is coming into rescue because of her family’s very challenging change of circumstances which has meant that they are struggling to find the time to provide Pepsi with the time and attention she needs. This has been a very difficult decision for her devastated owners.
Pepsi is good at the vets and groomers, is house trained and sleeps happily in her crate (door open). She is good with other dogs, and we think she would like to live with another well matched, friendly, non-aggressive neutered/spayed dog (veterinary evidence of neuter will be required) subject to successful introductions. She is not cat-tested, so introductions to any household cats will need to be carefully managed. Pepsi is a quick learner and absolutely loves positive, reward based training. She will need work on her recall, although it is a requirement of fostering that our dogs are kept on lead/a long training lead (not retractable) whilst in foster, unless being exercised/receiving training in a private, secure dog field. Pepsi is a young, lively and active dog and she needs a family with the time, energy and commitment to provide her with the life she deserves. She is microchipped, is in good health and is up to date with treatments, and vaccinations will be bought up to date when she has her foster veterinary check.
From Pepsi’s owner:
“Pepsi is a much-loved member of our family, and the decision to rehome her has been incredibly difficult, but we’re unable to give Pepsi the time, attention, and exercise she truly deserves. Pepsi will make a wonderful companion for the right person or family—someone who can dedicate the time and energy she thrives on. She is a lively, enthusiastic dog with a big personality. Pepsi has lived with young children and has been absolutely wonderful with them, enjoying all the attention they give. She has also spent time with other family members’ dogs and is friendly and sociable. She is well-mannered at home and knows basic commands, including sit, stay, waiting for food, and going to bed when asked. She is comfortable sleeping either in or out of her crate. Pepsi has breakfast and tea, no time limits usually when adults eat, both dry biscuits and wet food, separated in bowls. Pepsi goes straight outside for the loo after she has eaten.Pepsi will eat any treats given! Pepsi loves to play and needs plenty of mental and physical stimulation—balls, tug games, and interactive play are among her favourites. Pepsi is truly a fantastic dog. With the right level of exercise, training, and commitment, she would be almost perfect. We are heartbroken that we can’t give her what she needs, and it is extremely important to us that she is rehomed with someone experienced, active, and ready to include Pepsi in an energetic and fulfilling lifestyle. Pepsi does struggle with recall, mainly due to becoming very excited when out and about. This is something that will need continued training before she can be safely let off the lead.”
CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED
* There will need to be someone at home much of the time, unless you can take Pepsi with you. Should you hope to be considered to adopt Pepsi, she will not suit a family where she will be left until she feels settled, and then only for short periods of time and infrequently. Pepsi is never going to be happy being left frequently or for more than a few hours and only occasionally, and this of course is why she finds himself looking for a new family.
- Work from home is fine provided you have ample time throughout the day to ensure Pepsi continues to enjoy the walks she loves, and for enriching activities and cuddles. Pepsi cannot be shut away in another room whilst you work, she will want to remain near you and she is a good girl who will settle in her crate with a stuffed Kong or lickimat (door open) following a decent walk and some calming activities. If this is an issue for you, please do not apply for Pepsi.
* Pepsi will need direct access to a fully secure (min 5’ fencing/access gates) private garden
* Pepsi is a family dog and she can live with children aged 6 years and over, provided they are sensible and respectful around dogs and know to leave them alone when they need to rest (children should always be supervised around dogs) and provided Pepsi is placed firmly at the centre of family life, and will be very much included in family activities and adventures. She is such a good girl and she will love accompanying her little humans and their walk to and from school!
* Pepsi gets on well with other dogs, and we would consider a foster home with another well matched, non-aggressive/non-guarding neutered/spayed dog (veterinary evidence of neuter will be required), subject to a pre-foster meet up and walk to ensure the dogs get on, so please consider this before submitting an application for Pepsi. Pepsi would also be fine as an only dog provided she is given daily opportunities to socialise with other friendly dogs (foster dogs must be kept on lead/a long lead (never a retractable) unless in a fully secure area such as a dog safe field)
* Pepsi has not been cat tested, although there is nothing to suggest that she would not be fine with cats, subject to careful introductions.
* Pepsi currently pulls on the lead and her recall requires work. We will provide training support whilst she is in foster, once she has had time to settle.
* Pepsi has just finished a season. She will need to be spayed 12 weeks after her season finished.
- Pepsi responds well to positive training techniques. Doodles are sensitive dogs and we do not permit the use of harsh/punitive/aversive training techniques on our dogs. You should be experienced dog owners with a calm, kind, positive approach to training/dog ownership. You will be required to work closely with us and are required to implement our recommended training techniques.
* You will need to be fit and active. If you hope that fostering Pepsi may lead to adoption, please consider that she is a young, active dog and she could live to 15 or 16 years of age. She is never going to be a lap dog.
* You should have no holidays or breaks planned for the foster period (around 3 months if she is neutered whilst in foster) unless you can take Pepsi with you. We do not permit the delegation of care of our dogs to third parties (including dog boarders/dog walkers) whilst they are in foster.
* All family members must be in agreement with fostering Pepsi. You must be in a position to meet and foster her without delay. All resident family members (and any dog(s)) will be required to travel to meet her prior to foster.
The above criteria are based on Pepsi’s needs and are not negotiable. We cover all costs associated with the care of our foster dogs and we provide round the clock support. We expect fosterers to work closely with us to ensure the needs of our dogs are met and to follow through on any training or behavioural advice we provide.
Doodle Rescue only supports positive, force-free training methods. We will provide any necessary training advice and support, and we expect fosterers to follow this advice. Those who know these dogs will know that doodles are highly sensitive dogs which can easily be sent into a tail spin if subtle signs of anxiety are missed and if resultant behaviours are mishandled. We expect our fosterers and adopters to employ positive, reward based training techniques which these dogs respond well to. We categorically do not support and will not tolerate the use of aversive, punitive “training techniques” on our dogs.
We provide fosterers with full support and cover all agreed costs related to the care of our dogs whilst in foster.
Doodle Rescue is run by a small team of volunteers. We regret that we are unable to respond to unsuccessful applicants individually. If your application has been shortlisted to the next stage of our vetting process, or if we require additional information to enable us to fully consider your application, one of our volunteer admin will contact you via Facebook Messenger, by email or by phone/SMS within 3 days of your adoption application form submission. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, regrettably your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. We endeavour to provide sufficient information in each dog’s adoption bio to give an overview of our assessment of the dog and the required criteria to be considered to adopt the dog, to enable interested parties to assess suitability before submitting an adoption application. We regret that at this early stage of our vetting processes it is not possible for our volunteer admins to respond to requests for further information on a dog available for foster or adoption since – with limited resources and time - we must prioritise finding the right home for the dog and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter. We regret that we are unable to enter into any correspondence with unsuccessful applicants or with those who are considering submitting an application but who have not yet done so. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dogs
Please be aware that our vetting processes are thorough to ensure the welfare of the dogs and by submitting an application you are agreeing to cooperate with our processes, which will include a home check and references.
