Adorable 16 month old Dylan (approx 15kg, currently unneutered) is looking for his forever family! This little dog has an abundance of cheekiness, character and personality, and a lot of energy! He also has an abundance of love to give to his special humans. He absolutely loves being outdoors, and loves both active walks and adventures and long, sniffy walks equally. He is absolutely desperate to please and to get things right, and is very receptive to positive training (he absolutely loves it!) He is a very clever, very endearing little cookie who is desperate to find a family who will love him as much as he is desperate to give his love to them. This boy is a little cracker who has stolen the hearts of everyone he has met since he arrived in rescue. He really is an amazing little dog who deserves the world after a very shaky start to his young life.

Dylan is in rescue through no fault of his own. He has unfortunately been badly failed, having been repeatedly placed in situations where he has had to rely on his own wits to protect himself, with little to no care for his welfare. This poor young dog twice found himself lost outdoors in an unfamiliar, frightening environment; he was left with strangers and dogs in unfamiliar places and was left for hours alone in a car from a very young age. These frightening experiences led to him being hyper alert and vigilant and with no one looking out for him, he felt the need to step up to protect himself from perceived risks. He can bark and run at perceived threats (strangers or unknown dogs) as a result, and once nipped a stranger when they went to touch him when he was in full on “fright, flight, fight, freeze” survival mode. He is not an aggressive dog - he was repeatedly placed as a young dog in incredibly risky situations where he felt he had no choice but to look out for himself, and he absolutely should not be blamed for this. He has been through so much in his short life and he so deserves his happy ever after.

Until he has had time to settle fully into his new home and family, he will need to be kept on lead outdoors to give him space, and to have carefully managed introductions to visitors. Support will be provided. For the past month, Dylan has been in rehab with of a trainer/behaviourist to give him time to recover from his traumatic past experiences and to come down from his very high levels of stress and anxiety. We are delighted to say that Dylan’s naturally confident “can do” personality is beginning to emerge and he has shown himself to be an absolutely delightful, outgoing, fun-loving and devoted little dog who absolutely adores a good play with other trusted dogs (he is currently living with two large breed females).

What Dylan most needs now is an experienced, savvy, devoted family who will look out for him and advocate for his needs with other people and dogs, until such time as he can fully shrug off his past experiences, knowing he is now safe in the care of those he can trust.

To be considered:

✅ Dylan needs an active outdoorsy family with lots of time every day for fun and rewarding activities, such as Agility (he's a natural!) Work from home is fine as long as you have plenty of time throughout the day for Dylan and as long as you are happy for him to settle in the same room as you when you are working. Dylan has been through a lot.

✅ Dylan will die a thousand deaths if he isn't included in his family's lives to the absolute max. He LOVES to be involved in whatever is going on and he is very "helpy"! He is a real character dog, whose diminutive size belies his HUGE personality!

✅ He LOVES being outdoors, exploring the world and adventuring! You will need to be fit and active to keep up with him!

✅ Dylan will need to be on lead until you are confident of his recall and are confident that you can maintain his focus on you when there are distractions, and to keep him safe until such time as he has overcome his apprehension about unknown people and dogs. Dylan very much needs to run off his energy and you will need to have access to a secure dog field or a large fully secure garden (minimum 5’ fencing) (whilst he is in foster, we will cover the cost of a secure dog field)

✅ A calm adult only home (16+) with few visitors and with experienced, sensible dog owners with the confidence to advocate for this little dog on walks and with visitors

✅ He could potentially live with another well matched neutered/spayed dog, subject to introductions, provided they are separated for food and treats to avoid any guarding behaviours

✅ Cat free home

✅ Dylan can be anxious of men in particular at present, and of strangers in general, but is quickly won over by a gentle manner and the feeding of chicken 😅 BUT careful, managed introductions will be necessary until such time as Dylan feels safe enough to hand over the reins and can trust you to advocate for him

✅ Dylan is a VERY quick learner (he absolutely loves to learn!) You will need to share his passion for training and will ideally be keen to enrol in some Agility, scent work etc - activities you can all enjoy together!

✅ You should have no holidays or weekends away planned in the next few months unless you can take Dylan with you. Going forward, Dylan should only be left with those he knows and trusts.

✅ All resident family members must be in agreement with fostering Dylan, hopefully leading to adoption We cover all costs associated with the care of our foster dogs and provide round the clock support.
