FOSTER-TO-ADOPT*

DYLAN, 13 MONTH OLD UNNEUTERED MINIATURE DOODLE MALE (15kg)
CURRENT LOCATION: Peterborough

(*a foster placement which it is hoped will lead to adoption, at which point an adoption fee of £300 will apply)

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND ONLY APPLY IF YOU MEET THE CRITERIA AND BELIEVE YOUR FAMILY ARE THE RIGHT FIT FOR DYLAN

Introducing wonderful, clever, loving and loyal young doodle, Dylan. Dylan absolutely LOVES his walks and loves to play with other dogs. He currently lives with a small female dog and we feel he would benefit from having another well matched, non-aggressive/non-guarding confident and friendly neutered/spayed dog in the home (not a reactive dog please as there is potential for them to trigger each other). Dylan is used to running off lead in the fields around his home (his owners tell us his recall with them is quite good) and we will look to hire a secure dog field near to his foster home for him to continue to enjoy off lead exercise and play (our insurance requires that foster dogs are kept on lead/a long lead other than in secure areas) Dylan enjoys his trips into town with his owners and loves going to dog friendly cafes etc, and his owners tell us that he’s a very good boy!

Dylan recently went to his first ever Agility lesson and the trainer was astonished by him, saying he is a complete natural (he went through the tunnels with little encouragement and tore round the course as if he'd done it all before!) He absolutely LOVED it, bless him! He is a whip smart boy who absolutely LOVES to learn and he learns VERY quickly! Owners described how he quickly understands what is required of him training-wise, and then he goes one step further or works out a way of circumventing the task 🤣 He is definitely going to need a foster (hopefully to adopt!) home where he can be out and about with his outdoorsy and very active family, sharing in all their adventures, and where he will most definitely be given a job to do to keep that busy little brain of his happily occupied, as without this he will find his own entertainment! In the right home, given a job to do to keep his busy little brain occupied (and out of mischief!) we are sure this boy is going to absolutely thrive!

Dylan currently lives in a very busy, open plan home with teenagers and frequent visitors which he struggles hugely with. His owners have tried their best to make it work, but they are struggling with his anxious reactivity which manifests in their busy home as barking at noises outside, barking at visitors, barking at the TV, never really relaxing. He will need a calm adult only foster home which has few visitors. Dylan had previously also barked at people on walks, but he has responded well to the training his owners implemented, and hasn’t exhibited this behaviour for a few months now (he may regress when he arrives in foster) which suggests that in the right home environment his anxious reactivity can also be addressed through appropriate training (we will provide support with this). Note that Dylan is not a huge fan of people he doesn’t know approaching him to make a fuss on him, either indoors or on walks (he no longer barks, but will try to move away and will crouch down if he cannot do so (ie if he is trapped on a short lead) so his “I’m not comfortable with this!” body language is very clear) and you will need to be prepared to advocate for him to ensure his need for space is respected! In common with many doodles, Dylan is very adept at ensuring he gets his owners’ attention when he wants it! He will take an item of high value to his owners (ie an item of clothing) and will flaunt it in front of them in an attempt to get them to chase him for it! Note that he does also have the unfortunate doodle “Great Destroyer” trait, so you will need to ensure that any items of value (or which have the potential to harm him) are safely out of his reach! He is not cat tested and has a high prey drive, so a cat free home is required. He is NOT yet neutered, so any resident dog(s) will need to be neutered/spayed (given that he's an anxious boy, we will seek veterinary advice on neutering whilst in foster) Dylan does NOT have separation anxiety, but please note that we don't place any dog in a home where they will be left for more than a few hours every now and then, and only then once they have had a few months to settle.
This young doodle has so much potential, he just needs the right humans who will understand that he needs an outlet for all his pent up energy and intelligence, and who can provide the right home environment for his needs. We would really like if possible to avoid subjecting Dylan to further upheaval, and we hope that his foster placement will lead to adoption (an adoption fee of £300 will be payable)

Our behavioural adviser and IMDT trainer, Debbie Topping, is ITCHING to work with this clever boy, so it would be an added bonus if we could find a fosterer who is able to travel to her indoor and outdoor facilities in Bury, Greater Manchester/Lancs!
