FOSTER HOME NEEDED ASAP
with potential to adopt following assessment (adoption fee £300)

TILLY, 4YO FEMALE MINI LABRADOODLE (11.5kg approx)

LOCATION: NOTTINGHAM

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY

Little Tilly is a very much loved girl who is coming in to rescue through absolutely no fault of her own, but due to her owner’s change in circumstances which means Tilly is being left for upwards of 12 hours a day. Her owner has tried everything possible to avoid having to make this extremely difficult decision, but she cannot bear the thought of Tilly being alone for long hours, and she knows she needs to put Tilly’s needs first.

Tilly has lived happily with children aged 10 and over, and she is a family dog in every sense of the word. Tilly absolutely loves the company of other dogs, and we hope to find a home with a well matched, playful and non-guarding/non-aggressive neutered/spayed dog (veterinary evidence of neuter will be required) or otherwise one where she will have the opportunity to regularly meet and walk with a couple of doggy friends. Tilly is very much a typical doodle with happiness and bounciness in her genes! She loves everyone she meets (and expects them to love her right back!) Tilly is cat tested so could live with a cat (with careful introductions) She will benefit from some basic recall training. Note that we require the use of only positive training techniques. Dogs must be kept on lead/on a long line whilst in foster, unless being exercised in a secure dog field, and thereafter should only be let off lead when their recall is 100%. Tilly is a very active dog and she needs an active, outdoorsy family who will 100% include her in all aspects of family life. There will need to be someone at home much of the time (unless you can take Tilly with you) – work from home is fine, as long as this arrangement is guaranteed not to change, as long as you have ample time throughout the day to meet Tilly’s needs, and as long as she can remain with you in the room where you are working. Tilly is a “Velcro Doodle” – she loves being closed to her beloved humans and she sleeps on her owner’s bed at night. If this is an issue for you, Tilly is not the right dog for you. She is a very good girl, and she will happily settle while you work, following a good morning walk and some calming activities, with a lickimat or a stuffed Kong to keep her occupied. Tilly is in good health and is good at the vets and groomers. Note that Tilly is anxious in the car, so we are looking for a foster home within a reasonable travelling distance of Nottingham. Her travel anxiety can be addressed once she has settled into her new home. Tilly is finishing a season, and following a period in foster she will be placed for adoption on a neutering contract which requires that she is spayed 12 weeks after her season ends.

FROM TILLY’S OWNER:
Tilly is such a beautiful girl both inside and out. Shes such a happy dog and just wants to make everyone around her happy. She can be very excitable especially around new people and other animals. She has so much love to give and deserves her new home to be full of love. She will happily lay next to you all day and loves belly rubs the most.
She is a high energy dog and loves to go for long walks and runs daily, but equally loves a lazy day in bed with me. She is very well behaved at home - she’s never chewed and is house trained. She has always slept on my bed at night and has never used a dog bed, it’s my bed or the sofa. She loves her treats which is pretty much anything, but is fussy with her main meals; the only food I’ve been able to get her to eat daily and love is Pure pet food. She really will become your best friend, she’s very special and very clean - if there’s a bit of mud of her, she’ll find it and clean it off herself, as she hates having dirt on her! She goes to the groomers once every 8 weeks and they’ve never complained (well only that she gets very happy to see another dog come in!) I think she’d benefit from being in a household with another friendly dog similar to her, but then she’d equally be happy on her own as long as she has plenty of human attention.”

CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED (note that these are non-negotiable)

- Tilly is a happy family dog who can live with dog-savvy, respectful children aged 10 and over

- She thrives in the company of other dogs and would love to share her home with another well-matched, playful, non-guarding neutered/spayed dog (veterinary evidence of neuter will be required), although she would be happy as an only dog with regular play dates with familiar doggy friends

- A typical joyful doodle, she loves everyone she meets (and expects that they will love her back!) She may need some training on her “meet and greet” technique!

- Tilly can live with cats with careful introductions

- Tilly sleeps on her owner’s bed or next to her on the sofa. If this is an issue for you, please do not apply for Tilly.

- Some recall training is needed, using only positive reinforcement techniques. Foster dogs must be kept on lead/a long line outdoors, unless being exercised in a secure dog field (we can arrange field hire) Dogs should only be let off lead when their recall is 100%.

- Tilly is a typical active young doodle, and requires an active, outdoorsy family who are eager to include her in daily life

- Someone should be at home most of the time to meet her needs; work from home will be fine, as long as you have ample time for Tilly’s needs and are happy for her to settle in your home office with you, following a satisfying walk and calming activities. Note: given the reasons for Tilly being relinquished by her devastated owner, if you hope that fostering Tilly will lead to adoption you must be confident that remote working arrangements are unlikely to change in the future.

- Tilly is in good health but has car anxiety; to avoid subjecting her to the stress of a lengthy journey we are hoping to find a suitable foster home within a reasonable distance (for Tilly!) of Nottingham

- She is currently finishing a season and will need to be spayed 12 weeks after this ends

- All family members (including any dogs) will be required to meet Tilly for a pre-foster walk in Nottingham in the next week or so

- You should have no holidays or short breaks planned for the next few months, unless you can take Tilly with you. Tilly will not wait to come into foster till after any planned break or holiday.

- Doodles are highly sensitive, respond well to praise, and do not fare well with negative training methods, including being shouted at, and we will not tolerate the use of such methods with our dogs. Tilly learns quickly, is eager to please, and has only known love and encouragement.

- You must be fit, in good health and active, and prepared for a high-energy young dog with the potential to live to 12-15 years (should you hope to adopt Alfie)

Doodle Rescue only supports positive, force-free training methods. We will provide any necessary training advice and support, and we expect fosterers to follow this advice. Those who know these dogs will know that doodles are highly sensitive dogs which can easily be sent into a tail spin if subtle signs of anxiety are missed and if resultant behaviours are mishandled. We expect our fosterers and adopters to employ positive, reward based training techniques which these dogs respond well to. We categorically do not support and will not tolerate the use of aversive, punitive “training techniques” on our dogs.

We provide fosterers with full support and cover all agreed costs related to the care of our dogs whilst in foster.

Doodle Rescue is run by a small team of volunteers. We regret that we are unable to respond to unsuccessful applicants individually. If your application has been shortlisted to the next stage of our vetting process, or if we require additional information to enable us to fully consider your application, one of our volunteer admin will contact you via Facebook Messenger, by email or by phone/SMS within 3 days of your adoption application form submission. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, regrettably your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. We endeavour to provide sufficient information in each dog’s adoption bio to give an overview of our assessment of the dog and the required criteria to be considered to adopt the dog, to enable interested parties to assess suitability before submitting an adoption application. We regret that at this early stage of our vetting processes it is not possible for our volunteer admins to respond to requests for further information on a dog available for foster or adoption since – with limited resources and time - we must prioritise finding the right home for the dog and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter. We regret that we are unable to enter into any correspondence with unsuccessful applicants or with those who are considering submitting an application but who have not yet done so. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dogs

Please be aware that our vetting processes are thorough to ensure the welfare of the dogs and by submitting an application you are agreeing to cooperate with our processes, which will include a home check and references.
