Personality
Tilly says it best:
A Day in the Life of Tilly (AKA: Tilly Willy, Tilbury, Tills, Silly Tilly, Princess) :
“Hello, my name is Tilly, and I’m a female Labradoodle with a big heart, endless enthusiasm, and a love for life that I can’t wait to share with my forever family. My story didn’t start out with confidence. When I first arrived with Nikki and Peter as a foster dog, I was very nervous about the world around me. Men worried me, unfamiliar places felt scary, and sometimes I barked or growled when I wasn’t sure how to cope with new situations. Thankfully, I was given all the patience, kindness, and understanding I needed. Day by day, I learned that the world wasn’t such a frightening place after all. Now, I’m a completely different girl. These days, I wake up happy and excited to see what adventures the day will bring. In fact, if you say certain magic words such as “walkies”, “dinner time”, or “ball”, all sensible behaviour can temporarily disappear! I get so excited that I leap incredibly high into the air, bouncing around with pure joy. My family has to remind me to calm down and keep all four paws on the floor before we can continue. I simply can’t help myself – life is just too exciting sometimes! One of my absolute favourite things in the whole world is a tennis ball. Actually, one tennis ball is good, but several tennis balls are even better. I often entertain myself by carrying, chasing, and organising multiple tennis balls at once. If you are willing to throw one for me, I’ll happily play fetch for as long as your arm can manage. I also play wonderfully with other dogs and enjoy joining in games and activities with my canine friends. Whether I’m racing around with another dog or amusing myself with my collection of tennis balls, I’m always ready for fun. Squeaky toys are another great passion of mine. Whenever I get a new squeaky toy, I make it my personal mission to locate exactly where the squeak is hiding. Once I’ve found it, a very important game begins: how quickly can I squeak it, and for how long? I take this challenge very seriously and can spend ages happily entertaining myself. People often tell me I’m very clever. I love learning new things and really enjoy training sessions because they give me a chance to show off how well I listen. I’m eager to please and pick up new routines quickly. If I’m asked to go to my bed, I’ll happily trot over and settle down. Once I understand what’s expected of me, I do my very best to get it right. I have lots of energy and enthusiasm for life. Some people might describe me as extremely excitable and hyperactive, but that’s because I approach everything with my whole heart. I love long walks, running, exploring, jumping through rivers and streams, and cooling off in paddling pools on warm days. An active home where I can burn off my energy and be involved in family life would suit me perfectly. Although I love activity and adventure, I’m also incredibly affectionate. In fact, I adore attention. If someone else is receiving a fuss, I may occasionally decide that I should be included too! I love being the centre of attention and will often gently nuzzle hands, arms, or elbows to remind you that I would very much appreciate some strokes and cuddles. Once I trust someone, I form an incredibly strong bond and love them with my whole heart. I’ve lived happily around both dogs and cats and generally don’t pay them much attention. As long as I’ve had enough exercise, mental stimulation, and companionship, I’m content to settle down and relax near my favourite people. The people who know me best say I’m patient, loving, loyal, intelligent, and full of character. They’ve watched me grow from a frightened and uncertain dog into a confident, happy companion, and they couldn’t be prouder of how far I’ve come. When I move to my new home, I’ll be bringing all my favourite things with me, including my bed, bowls, lead, harness, toys, tennis balls, cooling mat, grooming brush (which I absolutely adore), food, and treats to help me settle in comfortably. Most of all, I’ll bring my love, loyalty, enthusiasm, and my wonderfully goofy personality. My family loves me very much, and this decision has not been easy for them. Their greatest wish is to find a forever home where I will continue to be cherished, understood, exercised, and included as part of the family. If you’re looking for a clever, affectionate, active companion who will make you laugh every day and reward your love with unwavering loyalty, I might just be the dog for you. Love, Tilly”
Ideal Home
Tilly would suit a family which enjoys quite an active lifestyle and is eager to involve their dog in all aspects of family life. You will need ample time throughout the day to spend with Tilly, whether going on fulfilling walks together, playing in the house and garden, doing a bit of play-based training or mooching together on the sofa having cuddles. She is a proper family dog who is happiest when she is with you. Tilly is not used to being left frequently or for long hours, so someone will need to be at home much of the time (unless you can take Tilly with you). Tilly is a really good girl who settles well in the room where her owners work. She sleeps in their bedroom, on her bed, and if this is an issue for you please do not apply for Tilly.
Tilly would do best in a home:
With an active, outdoorsy family
With ample time throughout the day for fulfilling walks, training, enrichment and cuddles
Where someone is at home much of the time (work from home is fine as long as Tilly can settle in the room
where you work)
Happy to work on Tilly’s lead walking using positive, reward based methods only
With a well matched, non-guarding, spayed/neutered dog for companionship (and fun!)
Where any children are sensible and respectful around dogs
Where she will continue to sleep on her bed in your bedroom
Where she will be placed firmly at the centre of the family and involved in all you do, not
sidelined
All resident family members (including any dogs) will need to meet Tilly in the next week or two, ahead of her coming in to foster. You should have no holidays, short breaks or nights away planned in the next few months, unless you can take Tilly with you.
