DIGBY THE GOLDENDOODLE

LOCATION: BEDFORDSHIRE

MEET DIGBY

Digby is the most loyal and loving doodle, confident, playful and friendly: the perfect family dog, and he has always been treated as very much an integral part of his family, accompanying them on family outings, activities and holidays. Digby absolutely being outside and loves his walks, whether long, leisurely and sniffy, sitting with you as you both watch the world go by (and perhaps enjoy coffee and cake and a Puppuccino and dog sausage!) or an opportunity to meet and play with other dogs! Digby currently lives with two other dogs and they get on well, and we would prefer him to have a well-matched doggy companion in his new home, although he could be an only dog, provided he is given ample opportunity to meet and socialise with other dogs regularly. He also gets on well with dogs he meets outside of the home, eager to say “Hi!” and to play. Most of all, Digby loves being close to his family, whether cuddled up with them on the sofa or settling at their feet whilst they work. You could not wish for a more devoted dog, and he is going to make one lucky family very happy.

Digby really is the most wonderful, adorable doodle who is much loved by his family, who have experienced a significant change of circumstances, with Digby (who has separation anxiety) now being left for long hours which his family know is not in his best interests.

PERSONALITY

Digby is affectionate, playful, loving and loyal and absolutely devoted to his special hoomans. He’s a sociable doodle who enjoys meeting people and other dogs. Digby loves nothing more than to be outdoors with his family, with the opportunity to meet and play with other dogs, or to just sit with you and watch the world go by.

Digby has been an integral part of his family, joining them on all their adventures, and he needs and deserves for this to continue in his new family. He will want to come on walks, trips, coffee stops, holidays, wherever you are, he’ll want to be too. He thrives on connection and being part of your life, rather than left on the sidelines.

Digby is a confident boy who takes most things (vet visits etc) in his stride, although he believes the Hoover to be possessed by an evil spirit and will do his best to exorcise it. He does not travel well, being unused to all but short journeys, and is car sick. He has some separation anxiety, which can be addressed with a gentle desensitisation programme once he has had ample time to settle into his new home, although he is not a dog who can be left frequently or for long hours. Digby is not crate trained. He has never been in kennels and would absolutely hate it, so if you must take a holiday without him you will need to consider leaving him in the care of a familiar relative or friend, or a home sitter or dog boarder.

IDEAL HOME

Digby would suit a family which enjoys an active lifestyle and which will place him firmly at the centre of all they do.

He’d do best in a home:

  • Where someone will be at home much of the time, or where Digby can accompany you outside of the home

  • With time for exercise, long sniffy walks and enrichment, and where he will have

ample opportunities to meet and socialise with other dogs

  • Preferably where there is another friendly, well-matched (neutered) dog for company

  • With a confident, calm, positive reward-based approach to dog training and ownership

  • Without cats

  • Where any children are aged 10 and over (although Digby is good with children he meets, he has never lived with children)

  • Within a 40-50 mile radius of Bedfordshire, as Digby gets car sick

OTHER

  • All family members (including any dogs) will be required to attend a pre-foster meet up and walk with Digby in Bedfordshire in the next week or two.

  • If you hope that fostering may lead to adoption, you should have no holidays or short breaks planned for the next three months, unless you can take Digby with you. A home boarder or house sitter should be considered for non-dog friendly holidays, and not kennels. ,You should be fit, in good health and active, and prepared for a high-energy dog with the potential to live to approx 15 years of age

  • Doodles are highly sensitive, respond well to praise, and do not cope well with negative training methods, including being shouted at or harshly corrected, and we do not permit the use of such methods with our dogs. Digby is well trained, learns quickly, is eager to please, and has only known love and encouragement in his life.

  • FOSTER SUPPORT

This is a foster to adopt placement, meaning you and Digby can get to know each other before a decision on adoption is made. Support will be provided while Digby is in foster, and we cover all agreed costs associated with the care of our foster dogs. Digby responds very well to positive training methods, and we require our fosterers to follow such training methods, under our guidance.

Should fostering lead to adoption, an adoption fee of £350 will be payable.

    APPLY

If you’ve been looking for a loving, loyal and devoted family dog to join your family, Digby could be a great fit for you.

We’re actively looking for Digby’s foster home now, and applications are reviewed as they come in. Click on the Application Form button at the bottom of the page to apply.

Those who know these dogs will know that doodles are highly sensitive dogs which can easily be sent into a tail spin if subtle signs of anxiety are missed and if resultant behaviours are mishandled. We expect our fosterers and adopters to employ positive, reward based training techniques which these dogs respond well to. We categorically do not support and will not tolerate the use of aversive, punitive training techniques on our dogs.

Doodle Rescue is run by a small team of volunteers. We regret that we are unable to respond to unsuccessful applicants individually. If your application has been shortlisted to the next stage of our vetting process, or if we require additional information to enable us to fully consider your application, one of our volunteer admin will contact you via Facebook Messenger, by email or by phone/SMS within 3 days of your adoption application form submission. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, regrettably your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. We endeavour to provide sufficient information in each dog’s adoption bio to give an overview of our assessment of the dog and the required criteria (which are non negotiable and based upon the individual needs of the dog) to be considered to adopt the dog, to enable interested parties to assess suitability before submitting an adoption application. We regret that at this early stage of our vetting processes it is not possible for our volunteer admins to respond to requests for further information on a dog available for foster or adoption since – with limited resources and time - we must prioritise finding the right home for the dog and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter. We regret that we are unable to enter into any correspondence with unsuccessful applicants or with those who are considering submitting an application but who have not yet done so. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dogs

Please be aware that our vetting processes are thorough to ensure the welfare of the dogs and by submitting an application you are agreeing to cooperate with our processes, which will include a home check and references.‍ ‍
