FOSTER TO ADOPT
ROCKET, 7YO NEUTERED Male Labradoodle
Location: GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Rocket will initially be placed on a foster basis. Should his fosterers wish to adopt him, they may apply to do so—at which point an adoption fee of £200.00 will apply. Full support is provided during the foster period, including coverage of all care-related costs
Sadly, beautiful Rocket is coming back to Doodle Rescue through no fault of his own, having been fostered then adopted by a young family in 2021. Rocket is very much a family dog and a typical labradoodle: energetic, intelligent, very loving, devoted to and thriving on the company of his humans and more than a little bit loopy! Rocket is neutered and is up to date on vaccinations and treatments. He has no known health issues. Rocket has a loose curly coat which will require a daily brush and a professional groom every 8-12 weeks.
Rocket loves nothing more than running around fields and on beaches, mucking about in water, and meeting up with other friendly dogs, although he can be anxious reactive with dogs he doesn't know approaching him and will snap at them to warn them to keep their distance (advice and support will be provided whilst he is in foster)
Rocket does have some separation anxiety and we are looking for a family where at least one adult member does not work or works from home (and this should be a permanent arrangement if his fosterers hope to adopt him) Rocket can live with children over 8 years of age (he has been absolutely wonderful with his adoptive family's young children). Rocket lives in harmony with his family's cat.
Please only apply if you meet the specified criteria:
There will need to be someone at home much of the time initially unless you can take Rocket with you.
Should you hope to be considered to adopt Rocket, he will not suit a family where he will be left until he feels settled, and then only for short periods of time and infrequently. Work from home is fine provided you have ample time throughout the day to ensure Rocket continues to enjoy the walks he loves, for enriching activities and for cuddles. Rocket cannot be shut away in another room whilst you work, he will want to remain near you, and if this is an issue for you, please do not apply for him.
Rocket is used to sleeping in his owner’s room, sometimes on his owner’s bed. If this is an issue for you, please do not apply for him.
Rocket will need direct access to a fully secure private garden
Rocket is a family dog and he can live with children aged 8 years and over, provided they are sensible and respectful around dogs (children must be supervised around dogs) and provided he is placed firmly at the centre of family life, and will be very much included in family activities and adventures. He is such a good boy, and he will love accompanying his human siblings to and from school!
Rocket can be unsure of and reactive towards unknown dogs, and for this reason we would prefer a foster home with no current dog, although previous experience of dog ownership would be preferable. Support will be given to address Rocket's anxious reactivity when he is in foster
Foster dogs must be kept on lead/a long lead unless in a fully secure area such as a dog safe field (we can arrange field hire once Rocket is in foster)
Rocket currently lives happily with a cat.
Rocket is a very bright boy who responds well to positive training techniques. Doodles are sensitive dogs and we do not permit the use of harsh/punitive/aversive training techniques on our dogs
You should be experienced dog owners with a calm, kind, positive approach to training/dog ownership.
You will need to be fit and active.
You should have no holidays planned for the foster period unless you can take Rocket with you.
All family members must be in agreement with fostering Rocket. You must be in a position to meet and foster him without delay. All resident family members (and any dog(s)) will be required to travel to Gloucestershire in the coming days to meet him prior to foster.
Doodles like Rocket are sensitive, intuitive dogs who require calm, confident, and positive handling.
We do not permit aversive or punitive training methods, including shouting, physical correction, isolating the dog, or any form of rough handling. Fosterers and adopters must have a gentle, reward-based approach and the ability to spot and respond appropriately to subtle signs of anxiety or stress. Rocket is a dog who will flourish with understanding and consistent, compassionate training.
