The perfect family dog!

FOSTER WITH POTENTIAL TO ADOPT
Enzo will be placed on a foster basis for neutering (vet advisory).   Should they wish, his fosterers may apply to adopt Enzo (an adoption fee OF £250 will apply) We provide full support and cover all costs in relation to the care of our dogs whilst they are in foster.

ABOUT ENZO
Enzo is an adorable, very much loved perfect family dog, who loves nothing more than a good, sniffy walk and cuddling up with you on the sofa (or your bed!). He will be neutered (vet advisory) whilst in foster. He is up to date with vaccinations and treatments and is in good health. Enzo is coming into rescue due to his owner’s circumstances changing significantly, which has meant that Enzo has not been getting the walks, socialisation and attention he has been used to, and this is making everyone unhappy. Enzo absolutely loves his walks and his little tail will wag madly when his harness appears! He is a very bright, inquisitive and affectionate little doodle! He is good with dogs he meets on walks, although has been known to guard food and treats with other dogs (never with people) in the home, which is a normal canine behaviour. Enzo is of course a cockapoo and his coat, ears and bits and bobs will require regular grooming. He would much prefer to be a low maintenance dood, but he does tolerate the groomer! His owner works from home, and Enzo happily settles in his home office – he is a very good boy! He sleeps either on his owner’s bed or on his own bed beside him (if this is an issue for you, you should not apply for Enzo) Enzo’s owner does not drive, and Enzo is used to public transport (with the occasional taxi ride!) Enzo has been known to chase cats, so needs a cat and small furry free foster home. He has never lived with another dog, but we would give consideration to a foster home with another non-aggressive/non-guarding NEUTERED/SPAYED dog (vet evidence of neuter will be required) subject to successful pre-foster introductions.

We ask that fosterers avoid leaving our foster dogs until they have had time to settle, and only then for very brief periods. Given his owner’s reasons for surrendering him, it is important to understand that Enzo will need someone at home much of the time, with ample time throughout the day to engage in his favourite activities, fulfilling walks, training and play. If you work from home, Enzo will need to be in the same room with you whilst you work and not shut away in another part of the house (he is a good boy and he settles well) Enzo needs and deserves an owner who has the time and enthusiasm to give him the best life, with lots of wonderful walkies and adventures. Any resident dogs will need to be neutered/spayed and veterinary evidence will be required. Note that we do not permit the use of aversive, punitive training methods and this includes shouting, shutting away or rough handling. Doodles are highly sensitive dogs who respond incredibly well to calm, confident, positive direction and handling.

From his owner:
“Enzo loves running, visiting dog parks, loves all weather, likes to chase a tennis ball, likes to be fussed, loves attention, loves to burn off energy, likes to be chased and run off, then come back. He’s a funny character who likes to be picked up for cuddles with his front paws on your shoulders and being told he is a good boy. He loves all kinds of toys, he’ll do tug of war and chase a tennis ball but won’t really want to drop it for you! He will sit for treats and he’d do great with someone who can give him the training and exercise and enrichment he needs. He has had snuffle mats/lickimats, stuffed Kongs in the past and enjoyed them. On walks, Enzo will either ignore other dogs or will bark an excited greeting. He loves attention and loves people, he does jump up to greet you and he loves the park, long walks, and he is really good at sensing behaviour/emotions and I think he would do well with a family with older kids as long as he is at the heart of all his family’s activities”

TO BE CONSIDERED

* There will need to be someone at home much of the time initially unless you can take Enzo with you. Should you hope to be considered to adopt Enzo, he will not suit a family where he will be left until he feels settled, and then only for short periods of time and infrequently.

- Work from home is fine provided you have ample time throughout the day to ensure Enzo continues to enjoy the walks he loves, for enriching activities and for cuddles. Enzo cannot be shut away in another room whilst you work, he will want to remain near you, and if this is an issue for you, please do not apply for him.

- Enzo is used to sleeping in his owner’s room, sometimes on his owner’s bed. If this is an issue for you, please do not apply for him.

Enzo will need direct access to a fully secure private garden

* Enzo is a family dog and he can live with children aged 8 years and over, provided they are sensible and respectful around dogs (children must be supervised around dogs) and provided he is placed firmly at the centre of family life, and will be very much included in family activities and adventures. He is such a good boy, and he will love accompanying his human siblings to and from school!

* We would consider a foster home with another well matched, non-aggressive/non-guarding neutered/spayed dog (veterinary evidence will be required) (note that a pre-foster meet up and walk will be required to ensure the dogs get on, so please consider this before submitting an application). Enzo would also be fine as an only dog provided he is given ample opportunity to socialise with other dogs (foster dogs must be kept on lead/a long lead unless in a fully secure area such as a dog safe field)

* Enzo has chased cats in the past. He cannot live with cats or other small furries.

-
Enzo is a very bright boy who responds well to positive training techniques. Doodles are sensitive dogs and we do not permit the use of harsh/punitive/aversive training techniques on our dogs. You should be experienced dog owners with a calm, kind, positive approach to training/dog ownership.

* You will need to be fit and active. If you hope that fostering Enzo may lead to adoption, please consider that he is a young, active dog and he could live to around 15 years of age

* You should have no holidays planned for the foster period unless you can take Enzo with you.

* All family members must be in agreement with fostering Enzo. You must be in a position to meet and foster him without delay. All resident family members (and any dog(s)) will be required to travel to Trafford, Greater Manchester in the next week to meet him prior to foster.

Those who know these dogs will know that doodles are highly sensitive dogs which can easily be sent into a “tail spin” if subtle signs of anxiety are missed and if resultant “behaviours” are mishandled. We expect our fosterers and adopters to employ positive, reward based training techniques which these dogs respond well to. We categorically do not support and will not tolerate the use of aversive, punitive “training techniques”.

Doodle Rescue is run by a small team of volunteers. We regret that we are unable to respond to unsuccessful applicants individually. If your application has been shortlisted to the next stage of our vetting process, or if we require additional information to enable us to fully consider your application, one of our volunteer admin will contact you via Facebook Messenger, by email or by phone/SMS within 3 days of your adoption application form submission. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, regrettably your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. We endeavour to provide sufficient information in each dog’s adoption bio to give an overview of our assessment of the dog and the required criteria to be considered to adopt the dog, to enable interested parties to assess suitability before submitting an adoption application. We regret that at this early stage of our vetting processes it is not possible for our volunteer admins to respond to requests for further information on a dog available for foster or adoption since – with limited resources and time - we must prioritise finding the right home for the dog and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter. We regret that we are unable to enter into any correspondence with unsuccessful applicants or with those who are considering submitting an application but who have not yet done so. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dogs

Please be aware that our vetting processes are thorough to ensure the welfare of the dogs and by submitting an application you are agreeing to cooperate with our processes, which will include a home check and references.
