Meet Max

Max is honestly just the sweetest, most adorable young cavapoo boy. He’s the kind of dog that makes you laugh without even trying. Whether he’s zooming around, proudly showing off a toy, or leaning in for affection like he’s known you forever (and he is a terrible flirt!) this boy will make one lucky family very happy. At only 2 years old, everything in life is still exciting to Max. He loves learning, loves going out and about on adventures and meeting and greeting his adoring public, and really just wants someone to treasure him and to share adventures with. Most of all, he loves cuddling up with his special hoomans on the sofa or bed, enjoying belly rubs and fusses.

This has been an enormously difficult but unavoidable decision for his owner. Max is very much loved and is used to being firmly at the heart of his family, involved in all they do and never “sidelined” or left behind, and this is what we want for him now.

Grooming needs: High, Max has a thick curly coat, prone to matting, and requires daily brushing and a regular professional groom (see below re groomer anxiety). His owner keeps his coat short to mitigate matting.
Ideal home: Max needs a loving “dog centric” home where he will rarely be left, and only then for very short periods once he has had time to settle, with time for training, exercise, and companionship

PERSONALITY

Max is a real family dog: extremely affectionate and playful, loves being involved in everything you are doing, and bonds heavily with his special hoomans. He’s a smart boy who enjoys training and enrichment activities, loves meeting people and dogs on walks (although being so small, he can be overwhelmed by overly boisterous or large dogs) absolutely adores his family, and loves nothing more than being close to them, cuddling up on the sofa or their bed – a true “velcro dog”.

He’s the sort of dog who will want to come on walks, trips, coffee stops, holidays, wherever you are, he’ll want to be too. He thrives on connection and being part of someone’s life rather than left on the sidelines. He will not cope in a busy household where he is not included in his family’s daily lives, or with being left frequently or for anything but the briefest periods of time. He is a young, active dog.

Having previously enjoyed going to the groomers, he was badly shaken by a traumatic experience with a new groomer. His owner now grooms him herself. Once Max has had time to settle, we will implement a programme of gradual exposure to an understanding and patient groomer to begin to address this.

IDEAL HOME

Max would suit a family which enjoys an active lifestyle and likes the idea of doing things with their dog. Walks, exploring, training, cafes, holidays, days out and family events, he won’t mind what it is as long as he can be with you.

He’d do best in a home:

• Where someone is at home much of the time. Max has never been left for more than an hour and very occasionally.

  With time for exercise, long sniffy walks and enrichment, and where he will have ample opportunities to meet and socialise with other dogs

• Happy to continue his training (his recall is poor and he will need to be kept on a lead/training lead until this can be addressed)

• With a confident, calm, positive reward-based approach to dog training and ownership

• Possibly with a well matched neutered/spayed dog

• Where children/frequently visiting children are aged 8 years or over, and are sensible and respectful of dogs

TRAINING AND SUPPORT

Full support will be provided while Max is in foster. Max is food motivated, intelligent, loves learning and responds well to positive methods, which makes him a really rewarding dog to work with. You must be prepared to work closely with us to address Max’s training needs, and separation anxiety/fear of the groomer, once he has had time to settle into foster and using only positive, reward-based training.

FOSTER DETAILS

This is a foster to adopt placement, meaning you can get to know Max properly in your home, and he you, before an adoption decision is made. Should fostering lead to adoption, an adoption fee of £400.00 will be payable.

All agreed foster costs are covered, and support and training advice is provided throughout.

OTHER

• All family members (including any dogs) will be required to attend a pre-foster meet up and walk with Max in Poole, Dorset.

• If you hope that fostering may lead to adoption, you should have no holidays or short breaks planned for the next three months, unless you can take Max with you. A home boarder or house sitter should be considered for non-dog friendly holidays as Max will not cope in kennels. You should be fit, in good health and active, and prepared for a high-energy dog with the potential to live to approx 15 years of age

• Doodles are highly sensitive, respond well to praise, and do not cope well with negative training methods, including being shouted at or harshly corrected, and we do not permit the use of such methods with our dogs. Max is well trained, learns quickly, is eager to please, and has only known love and encouragement in his life.

T&C

Those who know these dogs will know that doodles are highly sensitive dogs which can easily be sent into a tail spin if subtle signs of anxiety are missed and if resultant behaviours are mishandled. We expect our fosterers and adopters to employ positive, reward based training techniques which these dogs respond well to. We categorically do not support and will not tolerate the use of aversive, punitive training techniques on our dogs; we will take steps to remove any of our dogs should such methods be used. Always seek our advice if unsure about how to approach training – we are here to support you.

Doodle Rescue is run by a small team of volunteers. We regret that we are unable to respond to unsuccessful applicants individually. If your application has been shortlisted to the next stage of our vetting process, or if we require additional information to enable us to fully consider your application, one of our volunteer admin will contact you via Facebook Messenger, by email or by phone/SMS within 3 days of your adoption application form submission. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, regrettably your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion; this is not a reflection of you, but there is only one Lenny! We endeavour to provide sufficient information in each dog’s adoption bio to give an overview of our assessment of the dog and the required criteria (which are non negotiable and based upon the individual needs of the dog) to be considered to adopt the dog, to enable interested parties to assess suitability before submitting an adoption application. We regret that at this early stage of our vetting processes it is not possible for our volunteer admins to respond to requests for further information on a dog available for foster or adoption since – with limited resources and time - we must prioritise finding the right home for the dog and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter. We regret that we are unable to enter into any correspondence with unsuccessful applicants or with those who are considering submitting an application but who have not yet done so. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dogs

Please be aware that our vetting processes are thorough to ensure the welfare of the dogs and by submitting an application you are agreeing to cooperate with our processes, which will include a home check and references, and a pre-foster/pre-adoption meet up and walk with the applied for dog.
