FOSTER TO ADOPT
(a foster placement with potential to adopt following a period of assessment – an adoption fee of £450 will be payable)
Alfie, a 14 month old male doodle
Approx height 18”
Approx weight 15.5kg
Current location: NEWCASTLE or North Yorkshire
We are looking for an active, experienced dog-loving foster home for Alfie with the possibility to adopt (an adoption fee of £450 will apply). All costs during foster are fully covered by us, including vet care, grooming, a secure dog field and food (if needed), and we provide fosterers with full support.
Although we try to avoid moving our dogs into foster or adoptive homes over the festive period, this is sometimes unavoidable. If Alfie is to come in to foster before Christmas, we will need to be certain that his foster family are planning a quiet Christmas and New Year, with few visitors and no significant changes in routine.
About Alfie:
Alfie is a much loved boy who is friendly and sociable with visitors and family
Good with children (has spent time with visiting grandchildren) but has never lived with them, so we are looking for a home where any resident children are aged 14 and over
Enjoys the company of other dogs outside the home but would prefer to live as an only dog.
Learns quickly. Recall needs some work (foster dogs must be kept on lead)
Is not used to being left for more than an hour or two, and only infrequently
High prey drive so requires a cat-free home
Loves human company and being part of family life
Has been chemically neutered (September 2025) Will be placed for adoption on a neutering contract
Alfie is crate trained and sleeps in his crate (door open) at night
Loves long, sniffy walks and splashing around in water
Loves outdoor play and doggy social time
Loves Agility
Home Life & Needs
Recall training is required (we require foster dogs to be kept on lead/on a long lead unless exercised in a secure dog field, which we can arrange)
Will thrive in a home where someone is around most of the time, or where he can come along with you. Will not suit a home where he will be left for more than a couple of hours, and only occasionally (and only once he has had time to settle into foster)
Direct access to a fully secure private fully fenced (min 5’) garden is essential
Work-from-home is ok if you can regularly engage Alfie with social and sniffy walks, training, enrichment activities and companionship throughout the day. Note that he cannot be left shut away in a different room to you or crated while you work!
What Alfie’s owners say:
“Alfie is a lovely handsome fun loving boy. He is 14 months old and has a wonderful super positive personality. He loves his walks especially sniffing and splashing around in water. He enjoys cuddles and fuss but also like time to chill out and relax on his bed . He enjoys playing with toys especially if you are happy to stand and throw them for him in the garden! He enjoys meeting other dogs and walks well on his lead. He is used to being in towns and cities as well as the countryside and is more than happy to accompany you to a cafe or the pub! All in all he is a well rounded happy boy who can offer you lots of fun, affection and companionship”
To Be Considered for Alfie:
You must be in a position to meet and foster Alfie
You should be planning a quiet Christmas and New Year, with few visitors and no significant changes in routine
Any resident children must be aged 14+ and supervised; they must be kind and respectful with dogs (note that Alfie is fine with younger visitors)
No holidays booked in the next 3 months unless you can take Alfie with you. Alfie must remain in the care of his fosterers throughout his foster period.
Alfie is not used to being left for more than a couple of hours or so, infrequently
Alfie would be happier as an only dog in the home, but will need ample opportunities to meet and socialise with other friendly dogs outside of the home.
Experienced dog owners. Experience with doodles preferred
All household members must be available to meet Alfie in either Newcastle or North Yorkshire prior to him coming into foster
You must be fit, in good health and active, and prepared for a high-energy young dog with the potential to live to 12-15 years (should you hope to adopt Alfie)
Doodle Rescue only supports positive, force-free training methods. We will provide any necessary training advice and support, and we expect fosterers to follow this advice
Those who know these dogs will know that doodles are highly sensitive dogs which can easily be sent into a tail spin if subtle signs of anxiety are missed and if resultant behaviours are mishandled. We expect our fosterers and adopters to employ positive, reward based training techniques which these dogs respond well to. We categorically do not support and will not tolerate the use of aversive, punitive “training techniques” on our dogs.
Doodle Rescue is run by a small team of volunteers. We regret that we are unable to respond to unsuccessful applicants individually. If your application has been shortlisted to the next stage of our vetting process, or if we require additional information to enable us to fully consider your application, one of our volunteer admin will contact you via Facebook Messenger, by email or by phone/SMS within 3 days of your adoption application form submission. If you do not hear from us within this time frame, regrettably your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion. We endeavour to provide sufficient information in each dog’s adoption bio to give an overview of our assessment of the dog and the required criteria to be considered to adopt the dog, to enable interested parties to assess suitability before submitting an adoption application. We regret that at this early stage of our vetting processes it is not possible for our volunteer admins to respond to requests for further information on a dog available for foster or adoption since – with limited resources and time - we must prioritise finding the right home for the dog and we are grateful for your understanding in this matter. We regret that we are unable to enter into any correspondence with unsuccessful applicants or with those who are considering submitting an application but who have not yet done so. Note: due to GDPR we do not retain unsuccessful applications on our system and a new application will need to be submitted for any other available dogs
Please be aware that our vetting processes are thorough to ensure the welfare of the dogs and by submitting an application you are agreeing to cooperate with our processes, which will include a home check and references.
